Dakkada FC sends warning signals with Akwa United draw, says Olawale Doyeni

By: JohnPaul Nnamdi

Dakkada FC defender, Olawale Doyeni has stated that the draw recorded against fellow Uyo based team, Akwa United is a warning signal to the other teams in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL) that his side will not be a pushover in the league this season.

Akwa United were held to a goalless draw by the coach Umar Kwasau led side in the game held at the Nest of Champions and Olawale believes it is a feat him and his teammates are proud of.

“They draw against Akwa United is like an achievement because they were the favourites before the game, but we settled for a draw and we are happy with the result”, Olawale said to Freekicknaija.

“On the other hand, we are sending a signal because Dakkada FC won’t be a pushover eventhough many people see us as underdogs. This is to also say that we are not scared of other teams like Kano Pillars, Enyimba. We will take them as they come and we are ready for the season, hoping we will do well.”

Action returned to elite league football in Nigeria with the week one fixtures of the NPFL 2020/2021 season after nine months of break due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, Olawale revealed how he kept himself in shape while waiting for the league to resume.

“It was not easy for the past nine months because we were not playing football. During the lockdown I had personal training to keep myself fit and I must say that it really helped.”

The former Heartland FC defender who made his debut for the Uyo based side in the league opener, joined Dakkada FC this season.
