In a bid to ensure the Nigeria football league is managed in a professional manner, the Forum for Better Organized Nigeria Leagues and Club Sides has called on league organizers to put everything in place before going ahead to start the new season.
The Group Coordinator, Mr Vincent Akinbami who made the call yesterday during a press briefing held at the New Nigeria Newspaper office in Kaduna, described the Nigeria Leagues as amateurish in nature, as they fall short in terms of professionalism inline with international based practice.
He said if the non-adherence to club licensing requirements is continued, the group will go to go to court to stop the leagues from starting as well as draw the attention of FIFA and CAF.
“Considering the unprofessional manner Nigeria leagues are been ran over the years and the amateurish nature of acclaim professional football clubs, we have come out to say that things cannot continue like this”
He called on the Minister of sports, President of the Nigeria Football Federation and all stakeholders around the country to join the crusade for a better league and help to stop the current leagues from commencement until a meeting for reforms on leagues regulations is held.
“If our call is not adhered to in two weeks, we will be forced to call the attention of FIFA and CAF to non-adherence to club licensing requirements by our clubs and go to court to stop the leagues from starting”.
The Sports and Financial Consultant explained that the absence of transparency and accountability in players transfer system and the violation of regulatory guidelines on limited liabilities’ requirements by the leagues clubs are glaring.
“No financial and financial regulation, those in place are not adhered to. Players welfare inadequate. Above all, the club licensing requirement (5) five criteria put in place by FIFA and CAF are not being met,” he added.
