HB Academy wallop Bwari 8-2 to lift Abuja Elite Champions Cup

HB Academy have emerged winners of the 2021 Abuja Elite Champions Cup after defeating Bwari by 8-2 on Thursday.

The winners showed class and supremacy to have eased passed the Bwari side in the final clash.

Head Coach of HB Academy, Daniel Itodo, who was visibly excited, could not stop smiling as he noted that the big win was behind his mood.

“Everything about HB Academy is quality and winning mentality. That is what we create in our boys and they displayed it today. We are very happy.” He said.

Itodo added that the tournament has been able to help his players to learn new things, in addition to aiding their development. He advised that the tournament should be played yearly.

“The tournament is a good one because it’s in the U16 category. As a team, we have three categories- the U23, U18 and the U16 so our U16 boys have learnt a lot and I believe that by winning the competition, It is an avenue for them to develop and improve on their game.” he added.

According to the HB Academy boss, the runners-up, Bwari is a good side but his team was able to do their home work to have won the game.

In his remarks, Head of Recruitment and Transfer Market representative for HB, Ismail Hamza, popularly known as Veron, attributed the success to the effort of going round the country to scout for young talents.

“It’s our culture in this Academy to play good football that would be admired by everyone and that is what you have seen today.” He said.

Veron therefore, expressed hope that these talents can be developed and showcased to the country and the world.

The final was witnessed by former international and Professional Football Association of Nigeria (PFAN) Secretary-General Emmanuel Babayaro and several other football scouts.

The tournament was co-hosted by PFAN FCT Chapter and the Elite Project Group.
