Injury set back for Francis Uzoho

Super Eagles goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho will be out action for 6 months after tearing his ligament while on duty for the national team last Sunday against Brazil.

Uzoho fell on his back while contesting for the ball inside the penalty box in the 62nd minute of the encounter that ended 1-1 at the National Stadium in Singapore.

This will be a major blow for the Omonia Nicosia shot-stopper as he will now miss next month’s 2021 African Cup of Nations qualifiers  qualifying fixtures against Benin and Lesotho.

Reacting to the development, Nigeria coach Genort Rohr disclosed to news men that Maduka Okoye will step in the shoe of Uzoho for the crucial qualifying games.

“The injury to Francis is not too serious but he will be out of action a minimum three to four weeks. Francis had a great game, we regret his injury.

Maduka (Okoye) did well when he came on for him and could continue for the next game.”
