Mixed fortunes for Nigeria clubs in Total CAF Confederation Cup play off

There was mixed fortunes for Nigeria Professional Football League clubs in the Total CAF Confederation first leg play off on Sunday with Enyimba FC grabbing a vital three point at home as they piped South African side, TS Galaxy 2-0 in Aba while Rangers int’l lost 2-1 away in Lome.

The NPFL reigning Champions picked a 2-0 result against South Africa’s Nedbank Cup champions TS Galaxy courtesy of Victor Mbaoma and Martins Usule goals in each half of the game.

Mbaoma netted the first goal in the 8th minute of the encounter while former Katsina Utd striker, Martin Usule added the second goal on the struck of 60 minute.

The People’s Elephant could indeed have added to the scoreline but Galaxy goalkeeper Ludwe Mpakumpaku denied Usule a second with a brilliant save ten minutes from time.

Meanwhile in Lome, Rangers Intl FC conceded a late minute goal against ASC Kara of Togo after holding the host 1-1 at the Stade de Kegue.

Sapol Mani gave the host a deserve lead on 28th minutes but the Nigerian side responded almost immediately through Ifeanyi George who converted a penalty kick after Nnamdi Egbujuo was fouled inside the box.

Kara captain Richard Nane became the match hero after he scored two minutes into the end of the encounter to seal a win for his side.

Enyimba int’l will travel to South Africa while Rangers Intl welcome ASC Kara next week Sunday for the return leg of the play off with the aggregate winners advance to the group stage of the competition.
