​​Uzor Akannoh aims to fire Al Hamriyah to top tier

Nigerian forward Uzor Akannoh has expressed his desire to help his side Al Hamriyah to climb to the top flight of the United Arab Emirates football.
The youngster stated this in an exclusive chat with FreeKickNaija after his side sealed successive league victories in the UAE Division One against Gulf Heroes.


Akannoh joined Al Hamriyah after impressing in a trial that was organized for him by the club’s scouts before the season kicked off and since then he has been in the main squad of the team.
“I started playing professional football here in UAE because the club showed interest in me after a trial. My agent and I agreed to seal the deal with the hope that I will move to bigger clubs in Europe,” he said.


He also noted that he is not displeased with his beginning and believes he can attract bigger clubs in the future.
Hear him: “It is a gradual process and playing here is like a stepping stone for me. I don’t intend to play here forever. I hope to do my best and pave a way for greater achievements.


UAE football might be considered unattractive, but Akannoh insists that the experience has been worth the while because he plays with footballers from all parts of the world which also serves as a learning curve.
“The experience has been nice,” he said. “Football is good here and the league is tense because there are a lot of experienced players from different countries in my team and other teams as well. It is a league where I can improve my abilities and life as a professional footballer.”

About his objective for the season, he stressed that he is committed to helping the club gain promotion from the UAE First Division League to UAE Pro-League.
“The aim for me and other players is to put in our best so that we can gain promotion to the Pro-League. I believe we have the players, quality, and a very good coach. I think we can achieve this.”
Al Hamriyah is currently fourth on the log, four points below league leaders Al Arabi. Only the top two sides will gain promotion to the UAE Pro-League.
