2021-22 NNL: Ekiti United Gaffer Kayode Olujohungbe Focuses On Team Stability

Ekiti United head coach Kayode Olujohungbe has said his priorities now is to stabilize the team as Ekiti United begins the second stanza of the Nigeria National League, NNL away to Gateway United in Ijebu Ode on Sunday evening.

Olujohungbe told FreekickNaija Gbenga Adeleye on Thursday in Ado-Ekiti before the team departure to Ijebu Ode.

The former Sunshine Stars assistance coach opined that instilling his philosophy on the team is what he will be focusing on so as to get the desired results most especially on the road.

Ekiti United occupies the 5th position in the B1 Southern Conference with 15 points with 5 home wins, 6 away loses after 11 games played.

“Our preparation have been great! A bit shocking, though. “Players missing from training; speculation they might have crossed over to other camps,” said Olujohungbe.

Asked if his suspension from the team during the first half of the league will affect his team philosophy in the second stanza, he replied: “The uninitiated won’t understand your view, but team philosophy is affected. The new players are taking some time to understand my body smell and gesture but football has a general language.

“Building process is gradual in any trade, but luckily, the new boys are coping fairly well. Some where here already while I was away and my lieutenants were able to show them the ropes, we need some lucky break.”

Olujohungbe further stated that his lads will start picking the necessary points on the road starting from Sunday’s game against Gateway United.

“We always play offensively and barring all odds, we shall put Gateway under pressure on their own ground. They are good, no doubt, and will be hostile but that to be expected. Fans should be prepared for a great theaterical occasion.

I’m worried we are yet to pick points on the road. It’s killing me and the coaching crew, the United family expect better. Check back the NNL log you hardly see away wins but we plan to put that right as soon as possible. I detest mediocrity.

“If I feel we can’t go up, I will be a fraud to be in this job,” he said on his team chances of promoting to the top flight league.
