Former FC Ifeanyi Ubah defender Ebuka Nwenyi has switched to another Spanish club Mérida AD after impressing at former club Ourense CF.
FreekickNaija gathered that he signed a one year contract with an option to extend at the end of the season.
Nwenyi will now feature in the Segunda División RFEF, formerly known as Segunda División B, which is a Spanish football league system containing 90 teams divided into five groups and is administered by the Royal Spanish Football Federation.
Speaking to FreekickNaija in an exclusive interview, the product of Hopeland FC, Nnewi revealed that he had many offers, but opted for Mérida AD because of the pedigree and history of the club.
Hear him: “I had many offers, I had about six offers and even offers from two or three teams in the same category, but I choose Mérida AD because it’s a bigger club and the level here is high. I believe it’s good for my development as a player and they have a lot of history about helping players grow.”
It should be noted that Mérida AD had played in the first division for some years back as well as the second division of Spanish football.
Nwenyi who has already joined his new club for pre-season noted that they have a very good team and are in a position to be the best in their division. He also stressed that his teammates trust him and he is doing his best.
“The people here trust me a lot and I am doing my best to keep fit. I have noticed that we have a very good team. I believe we can be one of the top teams in this division,” he said.
The four group winners get a spot in the Group Winners Promotion Playoff. The two semifinal winners get promoted to Segunda División and play the final to decide the season champions.
