2nd edition of Special Marshal Competition launches, organizers roll out more sports

The Second edition of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Special Marshal Competition in Abuja was on Wednesday, launched at the Media Centre of the Mashood Abiola Stadium.

Along with a variety of activities was a draw / grouping for the competition and presentations which featured the FRSC, FCT Sector Commander, Oga Samuel Ochi, The Special Marshal, FCT coordinator, Mr Sani Adisa, and the Chairperson of the Sports Committe, Bar Victoria Nlemigbo Esq, amongst others.

With representatives of the different Units well represented, a total of 24 Units are expected to participate in this year’s edition in 6 groups.

This edition will also roll out more sporting events aside the 7-aside football tournament in the maiden edition. They includes, Table Tennis, Cheese ball, basketball, volleyball and badminton, as disclosed by the Chairperson, Bar Victoria Esq.

Bar Victoria Esq, who is a Lawyer by profession, a versatile and experienced sports administrator and Sports Lawyer, said this year’s edition is special because it is not limited to 7-aside football event. “We also have included other sports which includes table tennis, cheese ball, basketball, volleyball and badminton. So we want to encourage everyone who can do whatever to be involved not just those who can kick the round leather game.”

Also speaking to newsmen, the former Head of Women Football in Abuja highlighted the importance of the competition. She said “The work of the Road Safety is to ensure that our roads are safe and in the process of doing that, a lot of fitness and energy are required. So, we try to introduce sports to enable us to carry out out activities. Sports is extremely important.”

In his remarks, FCT Sector Commander, Oga Samuel Ochi, said “Special Marshal are parts of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) family. They are the second arm of the FRSC and their activities are of immense benefits to FRSC.

“If you are not healthy, you cannot also achieve your purpose of coming in as a Special Marshal in the first place and that is why I am specifically delighted that this arrangement is in place and for us to keep ourselves healthy and fit for the service.”
