Super Eagles of Nigeria will begin her quest for the fourth Africa Cup of Nations title against seven times Champions of the competition, Egypt on 11th January 2022.
Coach Augustine Eguavoen and his coaching staff last night led 25 players to Garoua where they would played all the group matches.
Nigeria are drawn in Group D of the competition alongside Egypt, Guinea-Bissau and Sudan.
Before living the shores of the country, the team had some training session under the watch of the team’s technical crew
As we await the start of the Africa’s most prestigious tournament, lets take a look at five players who I believe might help the team to excel.
1. Chidera Ejuke
Ejuke is definitely among the Super Eagles players that are on fine form for their respective club sides before getting national invitations. If he can be able to reciprocate his club’ performance and form at the national level, I don’t see reason why the Super Eagles will not go far in the competition.
Ejuke is gifted in the area of dribbling and holding on to the ball. I trust Coach Eguavoen to deploy him as our number 10.
2. Maduka Okoye
The success of any football team depends on how good the goalkeeper is. Okoye has been brilliant the recent times he was invited to the national team. I expect him to extend the same gesture when the AFCON tournament commences.
3. Taiwo Awoniyi
Super Eagles might be short of strikers due to the withdrawal of Victor Osimhen, Emmanuel Dennis and maybe Odion Ighalo. However, I expect Awoniyi to put up a decent outing as the team would be relying on him to get the goals for Nigeria.
4. Wilfred Ndidi
Ndidi is one of the most consistent player in the Super Eagles Squad. I expect him to continue with the same form at the tournament. He should be able to hold the midfield position for the team.
5. Samuel Chukwueze
The Super Eagles might capitalize on Chukwueze’s pace to excel at the tournament. The youngster has been brilliant for Villarreal before coming for the tournament.
