NGA 5-0 DRC: Flamingoes Overpowered DR Congo In U17 FIFA Women’s World Cup African Qualifiers

Flamingoes of Nigeria displayed a spirited performance against theirs opponents from DR Congo in the second leg of the second round of the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup African Qualifiers that was held today at Samuel Ogbaumia Stadium in Benin.

The Flamingoes continued from where they stopped in the first leg as they scored five more goals to advance to the third round of the qualifying series on 8:0 aggregate score line. 

Opeyemi Ajakaye capitalized on the defensive mishap from the Congolese defense to open the scoring in the fifth minutes of the game. She followed up with another goal in the 15th minutes.

The third goal of the evening came through Oluwatunmininu Adeshina in the 23rd minute as Nigeria head into the tunnel with a comfortable lead. 

On resumption of the second half, Alvine Dah-Zossu missed a chance to add the fourth goal. However, Alvine made amend to her earlier miss by setting up Doosur Atume to score in the 62nd minute. 

Taiwo Afolabi scored the fifth goal to ensure that Nigeria advance on 8:0 aggregate.

The Flamingoes are expected to face Egypt in the third round of the qualifying series.
