AFCON 2021: Gambia’s Papa Gassama To Officiate Nigeria, Egypt Clash

The Confederation of African Football, CAF referee council has appointed Bakary Papa Gassama as the centre referee for the much anticipated clash between Nigeria and Egypt in Garoua on January 11.

The referee council made this known on Saturday evening.

The 40-year-old FIFA badge referee is widely regarded as one of the best referees to have come out of Africa and was among the few selected on the continent for the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia.

Gassama was in charge of Nigeria’s Super Eagles 3-1 victory over Algeria in the 2018 World cup qualifier at the Goodswill Akpabio Stadium.

The 33rd edition of the African Cup of Nations will commence today in Yaounde, Cameroon with the opening match between the host country, Cameroon and Burkina Faso.
