Plateau United goalkeeper Chinedu Anozie has stated that he is determined to set a personal new clean sheet record by surpassing his previous feats in the Nigeria Professional Football League(NPFL).
The former Abia Warriors star who has already kept three clean sheets in four games in the league has built a consistent reputation as the goalkeeper with the most clean sheets in the last two seasons.
“My goal for the season, like always, is to keep more clean sheets than last seasons. I am determined to do it and I just believe that at the end of the day, I will have more clean sheets than I did last two seasons. It is also my target to help my team win the league convincingly this time,” Anozie said to freekicknaija.
In his stint with FC Ifeanyi Ubah, Anozie recorded 10 clean sheets and repeated the same feat in his first season with Plateau United.
He, however, stressed that his consistency in finishing the season with good records is a result of having the chance to play the next season.
“I would say that being consistent in keeping clean sheets has been a good thing for me. One thing is to keep clean sheets in a season, another thing is to have the chance to play the following season. In Nigeria, it is normal for teams to change almost 60% t0 70% of their players after every season and when these things happen, even the best players might not have the chance to play. So I have been getting the chance and that is why I have been consistent,” Anozie added.
The Plateau United shot-stopper also expressed regret over their ouster from the Total CAF Champions League. The NPFL champions were eliminated by Simba FC of Tanzania.Hear him: “All the players are very disappointed and we all take the blame. Although I was injured at that moment and could not play for the team. But if the team does well, we will take the credit and if the team performs badly, we will also take the blame. So the whole players are unhappy about that and we hope to do better in our next outing.”
In the next fixtures of the NPFL, Plateau United who are currently 9th on the log will be guests to Katsina United at the Muhammadu Dikko Stadium.
