The Ekiti State Commissioner for Health and Human Services, Dr. Oyebanji Filani has commended the purpose behind the Ekiti State All Secondary Schools Football Competition tagged “Professor Akin Oyebode Cup”.
Filani while speaking after the kick off of the competition on Thursday at the Oluyemi Kayode Stadium, Ado Ekiti commended the Ekiti State Football Association for putting the tournament together because it’s an avenue to keep the students engaged positively.
He also applauded the sponsor, the Ekiti State Commissioner for Finance and Economic Development, Honorable Akintunde Oyebode.
“The reality around the alternative of what these kids could have been doing, they could have been on the streets, the ability to bring them together and allow them participate in what they feel that can be fulfilling for them,” said Filani.
“I think this is an excellent thing to do we must commend Professor Akin Oyebode and of course his children for financing these competition.”
Filani further urged parents to give their kids the right education and also allow them do sports.
“Education is critical, the reason why we are where we are today is because a number of us have been educated, the reason why these students are here is because they are in school, and for you to move forward in life you need education. I want to encourage parents to educate their children, also sports allows you keep being healthy.
“A large number of people have taken to sports and have become something in life. We have the footballers, basketballers etc., so encourage your children to do this actively and it is a way to mingle with other people. I encourage parents to allow their kids do sports.”
