My objective is to help Al Nasiriyah gain promotion – Ujah Uloko

By: Johnpaul Nnamdi

Former Katsina United central defender Ujah Uloko has stated that his primary objective at the moment is to help his club Al Nasiriyah gain promotion to premier league football in Iraq.

The towering defender also stressed that the next two games are vital as it remains their only hope to achieve their objective before the season comes to an end.

“The main objective is to take the club to the height they have never been before, which is the premier league. Right now we have set a record because for the past 10 years, they have not even played in the second division and we made it possible.

The mission is not completed yet because we hope to gain promotion to the top flight as we go into the last two games,” Ujah said.

Before moving to Iraq, Ujah had featured for Heartland FC, Go Round FC, Nasarawa United and Katsina United in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL).

On what motivated him to move to Iraq, Ujah noted that the pay was attractive and the country’s league is ranked among the top 10 in Asia. He, however, revealed that he is comfortable playing football in Iraq.

“At first when I got the offer, I was nervous but what attracted me most was the pay. I also checked the ranking and I saw that in Asia Iraq is among the first 10 countries. Since I have, I have settled down and I am really enjoying life here.

I have also been given a lot of responsibility: I am the captain of the team and I hope to inspire the boys.”
Al Nasiriyah are currently occupying the fifth position with two games to go. A win in the last two games will see them qualify to the premier league.
