The Nigeria Football Federation has explained the rationale behind the exclusion of Leicester City player, Ademola Lookman from the 28 man squad that was released by Augustine Eguavoen for the forthcoming 2021 Africa Cup Of Nations tournament in Cameroon.
It would be recalled that Ademola Lookman’s name was initially included in the 40 man provisional roaster that was submitted CAF by former Technical Adviser, Gernot Rohr. Ademola Lookman’s name was on Serial number 37.
Following the release of the final AFCON squad names last Saturday, Nigerians have been criticizing Eguavoen for omitting Ademola Lookman. They believe the player is more in-form and should have made the cut.
However, the NFF through its communication department has come out to clarify that the process of the clearance has not yet been completed for him to represent Nigeria at International level.
According to the football body, the reason why his name was included initially was that they assumed the process would have been completed before the AFCON tournament.
Here is the full statement by the football body.
