Nigerians Should forget about the goal I missed in 2010 world Cup – Yakubu Aiyegbeni

Former Super Eagles striker Yakubu Aiyegbeni has pleaded with Nigerians to forget about the open goal he missed during the 2010 FIFA World Cup Group B match between Nigeria and South Korea in South Africa.

In an exclusive interview with Joy Sports Link in the build-up to the Ghana-Nigeria double-header for the 2022 FIFA World Cup playoffs, Aiyegbeni revealed that he still received insult from some people over the incident that occurred for over a decade.

According to him, despite the missed chance, the 2010 FIFA World Cup in South Africa still remains the best tournament in his career.

“The tournament is the best in my career because I still went ahead to score. One of my desire for the tournament was to get a goal for Nigeria and I thank God I was able to achieve it despite the miss. ” the former Nigerian striker said.
