It was a day to remember for young and prospective professional footballers in Abuja as the Sports Unit of the Nigerian Federal Fire Service, and the TAFA Local Government, Niger State jointly organized a two-day scouting program to help discover the next Big Stars out of the Country, which began on Tuesday, 19th October 2021.

Tagged the ‘MAMI Scouting Program’, the event which was put together by the director of sports of the Fire Service Mr Ibrahim Ismaila, had in attendance Mr Holme Steen Floor and Mr Pedersen Michael Moller both of whom are from Danish-based renowned Sports Agency, Oxygen Sports Management and Council.

Also in attendance was the Chairman of TAFA Local Government, who is also the major Financer of this year’s event- Honourable Ibrahim Mami and the former assistant coach of Nigeria’s U17 Women’s team (Flamingos) Mansur Abdullahi, who was there to bring his expertise to bear.

The 13 teams, who were in attendance paired against each other as the players were afforded the opportunity to impress and get a chance to further showcase their football talents outside the shores of the country.

The first game saw the Boys from the Federal Fire Service take to the field against Ijah United. Although, the match ended 1-1, but it was the fire boys who weren’t just dominant but also showed more confidence and composure in moving the ball around.

That performance saw the duo of Oladeru Oluwasegun and goal scorer Jamiu Ola of the Fire Service instantly had their names pencilled down by the Danish scouts who were impressed due to the exciting performance of the players.

Meanwhile, Dante FC fell 2-0 to Abuja Selected XI, after which the scouts were treated with yet another explosive game where Rhapsody FC brushed aside Tafa United by the same score line.

In the fourth game of the day, Fire Academy did replicate the impressive performance of their senior team by edging Mighty Ovias 1-0 in a keenly contested game.

However, Hovel Prime FC and Ijah United II then took to the field for the fifth game of the day but the evenly matched contest ended in a goalless draw, with the Danish scouts praising the high level of intensity from both teams.

In the penultimate game of the day, Waco Football Academy showed their supremacy and class on the field, thumping Mate Fc 3-0 with the goals coming in quick succession. However, Mate FC redeemed themselves in the day’s final game by playing out a 1-1 draw with Zango FC to complete the first day’s exercise.

The last day of the exercise will come up on Wednesday, where it is expected that the scouts will make their final selections upon the completion of the day’s activities.
