PresidentialCup21: NPFL Champions, Akwa United, Giants Kano Pillars, Lobi and Sunshine Stars Trade Tackles on the Newly Renovated Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja

After an extended period of inactivity at the Mainbowl of the Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja, the gigantic edifice will finally burst with life with footbal set to return.

The Presidential Pre-Season Cup 2021 will be the curtainer raiser to flag-off usage of the now revamped Moshood Abiola Stadium, Abuja.

The tourney features NPFL champions Akwa Utd, giants Kano Pillars, Lobi Stars of Markudi and Sunshine Stars of Akure.

On match day 1, Thursday 10th December 2021, Sunshine Stars will be up against Kano Pillars at 3pm while Lobi Stars will be hoping to provide stern opposition for NPFL champions, Akwa United at 6pm.

On Match day 2, Kano Pillars will be eyeing to dim the Stars of Lobi at 3pm while Akwa United will attempt to outshine Sunshine Stars at 6pm.

On the last match day, Eddy Dombraye’s Lobi Stars will take on Sunshine Stars and Sai Masu Gida Kano Pillars will renew hostilities with Kennedy Boboye’s Akwa United.

Speaking on the tourney, project co-ordinator, 1996 gold medalist, Emmanuel Babayaro (M.O.N) stated that “The Honourable Minister of Youth and Sports Development has done a massive job in getting this stadium to come back to life. This tournament will showcase the beauty of this gigantic edifice for all to see the national treasure that seats here. Also, participating teams will use this opportunity to test their readiness for the new season”.

He added that, for ease of movement, the general public will be provided with shuttle buses to and fro the stadium on matchdays from various parts of Abuja, including Kubwa, Lokogoma, Gwarinpa etc”

Fans are expected to comply with COVID-19 safety measures via usage of face masks and hand sanitizers.
