Sports Council, Ministry Of Education Strengthen Ties To Improve Grassroot Sports in Ekiti State

In her bid to further Strengthen sports development from the grassroot, the Ekiti State Sports Council led by the Chairman, Hon. Mrs Olusola Osetoba and her board on Tuesday paid a working visit to the Commissioner of Education, Dr. Mrs Olabimpe Aderiye in her office on the need to encourage sports among students in the State.

Osetoba thanked the Commissioner for finding it worthy to host the Sports Council despite her busy schedules.

The Council Boss in her address said their mission was to form a synergy in areas of catching them young from ours schools and this can not be achieved without the support of the ministry in charge of Education in the State.

“Sports and Education go together but without encouraging sports in our schools, Identifying these talents from the grassroot which are planted in our schools will be very difficult because the schools contributes a larger percentage in grassroot development.

“The importance of sports and education can not be overemphasized because of the benefits in terms of discipline, leadership skills, self confidence and communication skills, increases concentration of the mind and decision making capabilities which not only contributes to their academic success but other areas outside academic.”

“We urge you to (Dr. Mrs Aderiye) to push and give us advise because we want to succeed,” Osetoba Maintained.

The Commissioner, Dr. Mrs Olabimpe Aderiye welcomed the Council and thanked them for finding it worthy to visit her.

“I’m pleased to receive you.” Sports and Education are important in our schools because it develop courage and self confidence among students. It enhance communication skill especially when they meet with their counterparts outside the shores of the country.

“We (Ministry Of Education) want to assure you that we are behind you and we will not relent in our support.

“I can assure you we will continue to cooperate with you and advise you when necessary on the way forward,” said Dr. Mrs Aderiye.

In the meeting were the Sports Council board members, Hon. Akinlabi Francis, Hon. Oyebode Tanwa, Hon. Olanipekun Kehinde, Hon. Ojo Oluwadare and Sports Council General Manager, Chief Deji Samo.
