Inhulets Petrov of Ukraine’s forward Stephen Michael Gopey has joined Qatari side Al Arabi SC on a short term deal after the Russia-Ukraine war halted football in Kyiv.
The young Nigerian forward successfully made the switch after returning back to Nigeria, as Russia made incursions into Ukrainian territories.
FIFA opened a special window for foreign nationals in Ukraine and Russia to find new clubs, if they wish, with rising tensions in the East European nation.
Gopey attracted interests from lots of clubs in Europe and Asia but it was Qatar-based side Arabi that won the race for his signature.
Gopey will be in Qatar for a short period before deciding his next step at the end of the contract.
He had scored on his debut in Ukraine against Shaktar Donetsk and will be aiming to add quality to the attack line of Al Arabi SC.
