The Experienced NPFL Goalkeeper Who Can Step Up To Solve Super Eagles Goalkeeping Problems

Since the departure of Vincent Enyeama from the national team, the Super Eagles have not been able to get a decent replacement that could step into his shoes. In truth, we had Carl Ikeme who have been brilliant and competing with Enyeama for the number one spot.

However, Ikeme suffered an illness that forced him to quit professional football. Unfortunately for Nigeria, we didn’t have a reliable third choice that could have field the vacuum in the absence of the two.

Daniel Akpeyi became the available option for Nigeria and kept the position for sometime before he was displaced by Francis Uzoho. The two goalkeeper have not being convincing and they are not even close to Vincent Enyeama and Carl Ikeme brilliance.

Meanwhile, I think the Super Eagles Coach should extend his search light to the Nigeria Professional Football League. After, Vincent Enyeama started his career from the local league.

In my opinion, Theophilus Afelokhai who plies his trade with Rivers United could step up to be the reliable goalkeeper we have been looking for.

The 31-year-old is one of the Nigerian based goalkeepers with the most continental experience. We saw how he put brilliant performance when Enyimba was prosecuting their CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup campaigns.

Afelokhai is also among the goalkeepers with the most cleen sheets last season in the NPFL.

I think it time to start looking for a reliable goalkeeper that we can depend on.
