Super Falcons were unable to negotiate their way past the Ivory Coast women’s national team in the first leg of the final round of Tokyo 2020 Olympic Qualifiers played on Thursday in Treichville.
The Nigerian team attack led by Barcelona Féminine forward, Asisat Oshoala struggled in front of goal as they laboured to a 0-0 draw after missing several goal opportunities.
Ange N’Guessan came close in the early stages but could not fire past goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie in the opening 20 minutes.
With no goal in the first half, both teams resumed on a high but Oshoala missed two fine chances as Nigeria shared the spoils with the hosts after Amarachi Okoronkwo was sent off at the death.
With a first-leg stalemate, Christopher Danjuma’s side will hope to make their best of the reserve fixture in a bid to advance.
The return leg of the encounter will take place on 7th October at the Agege stadium, Lagos.
