Top Four Greatest Super Eagles Goalkeepers Of All Time

The previous set of the senior national team was blessed with some talented goalkeeper that did excellent job for the country. However, this post would focus on only four of the.

Below is the compilations of my top four greatest Super Eagles goalkeepers of all time.

1. Peter Rufai

Peter Rufai made hundreds of saves in his time as Super Eagles goalkeeper to earn legendary status. Only a few know that he also scored for the Super Eagles. Rufai scored his only goal for the Super Eagles in the 6-0 win over Ethiopia at the national stadium, Lagos in 1993.

2. Emmanuel Okala

Emmanuel Okala represented the Super Eagles team from 1972 to 1980.

He was awarded as the “Footballer of the Year” in 1978 after winning the 1980 African Cup of Nations tournament while representing the country.

3. Vincent Enyeama

Enyeama is one goalkeeper that can not be forgotten in a hurry due to his superb performance with the Super Eagles. Enyeama was consistent during his days and he commanded the starting shirt for Nigeria until his international retirement.

Enyeama helped the Super Eagles to third-place finishes in the 2004, 2006, 2010 Africa Cup of Nations tournaments. He was also the captain of the team when Nigeria won the 2013 AFCON edition.

4. lke Shorunmu

Shorunmu is another highly rated Super Eagles goalkeeper of all time. He was brought in the national set up by then Nigerian coach Clemens Westerhof in 1992. After making his debut, Ike never looked back as he rose to being the first-choice goalkeeper of the national team and played at the 2002 FIFA World Cup.
