Sports Commissioner, Hon. Awopetu Inaugurated As Board Chairman, Ekiti Sports Development Trust Fund

The Commissioner for Youth and Sports, Hon. Michael Awopetu has been inaugurated as the Board Chairman, Ekiti Sports Development Trust Fund.

The ground breaking event was held at the conference hall of the Governor’s office, Ado-Ekiti on Friday evening.

The Board was inaugurated by the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi who was represented by the Secretary to the State Government, Hon. Biodun Oyebanji.

Hon. Michael Awopetu in his address thanked the Governor for finding him worth to lead the Board of the Ekiti Sports Development Trust Fund.

“This is yet another ground breaking record in the sports sector under Dr. Kayode Fayemi led administration.

“Since the inception of this administration, His Excellency, the Governor has given priority to plights and yearnings of our teeming youth, I’m bold today to say that no State Governor of nowadays in the country has prioritize the plight of her youth than our amiable Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi.

“In our sports sector, we’ve not only recorded developmental strives in sporting events that have showcased Ekiti to the world but we are fast becoming a force to be reckoned with in the country when sports are brought into focus.

The Commissioner of sports futher informed that the grassroots development initiative have started yielding desirable results and we have become point of reference to some neighboring State as they now approach us for ideas.

“l’m happy to inform you, Your Excellency that some of the athletes discovered at our various sporting events during this JKF 2 have started doing well.

“Our performances at the recently concluded National Youth Games in Ilorin, Kwara State was a great testimony of our collective efforts, our young athletes made us proud with two gold, nine silver and two bronze medals to be precise.

“Also an indigene of Ekiti State, from Isan Ekiti, Mr. Ajayi Bamidele has represented Nigeria at the recently concluded World U-20 Athletics Championship in Nairobi, Kenya and won two gold medals.

“The recent participation of Ekiti United at the National League Super 8 play off competition were we missed promotion into the Nigeria Professional Football League by whiskers is a testimony.”

“In Ekiti State Sports Development Trust Fund will we no doubt put an end to the era of under funding affecting the sports sector.”

Hon. Awopetu commended the Governor, Dr. Kayode Fayemi for this great initiative.

“I’ve no doubt that Ekiti athletes both the present and upcoming ones will forever be grateful to our amiable Governor for creating an enabling environment and for providing this initiative that will see the acceleration of sports development both infrastructural and in terms of athletes discovery in the State,” the Commissioner of Sports concluded.
