Maureen Mmadu was born on May 7, 1975 and hails from Onitsha in Anambra State.
She was a midfielder during her playing days. Maureen played for Pelican Stars, Jedege Babes and Ado Babes in Nigeria before her sojourn to Europe.
She won four African Women’s Championship – 1998, 2000, 2002 and 2006.
Maureen Mmadu was the first Nigerian player to make 100 appearances for Nigeria women’s national football team including appearing at four FIFA Women’s World Cup and two Olympic Football Tournament at Sydney 2000 and Athens 2004. She was an assistant coach when the Super Falcons won their record ninth continental title in 2018 and also an assistant coach at the 2019 World Cup.
In 2005, Mmadu won a wrist watch worth 450 Euro with Klepp as the highest goal scorer.
She played for Norwegian sides Klepp IL, Amazon FK Grimstad, Avaldsnes IL, Kolbotn in 2010 season helping them to third place in the Toppserien league. Mmadu played for several other teams in Norway’s Toppserien as well for Linköpings FC and QBIK of Kalstad were she was the captain in 2006 in the Swedish Damallsvenskan.
In 2011, she helped Avaldsnes gained promotion to Toppserien as the highest goal scorer with 22 goals.
She holds a UEFA C license as a coach. Mmadu, the first African woman to coach a top team in Europe with Avaldsnes as assistant coach and also the chief coach of Avaldsnes 2 division in Norway.
Mmadu is the sole financier and coach of Maureen Mmadu Football Academy, Ozubulu in Ekwusigo Local Government, Anambra State.
