AFCON 2021: 3 Countries That Are Favorites To Win The Title

The 33rd edition of the African Cup Of Nations is upon us with 24 days before the kick off. 

A total of 24 countries are expected battle for the coveted trophy in the tournament scheduled to hold between January 9th to February 6th 2022. This would be the first time in the history of the competition that there be a round of 16 after the completion of the group stage. 

Six Stadiums are expected to host the matches from group stage to the final. 

However, this post would take a look at three countries with high chances of lifting the trophy. 

1. Algeria 

The Desert Warriors of Algeria without doubt is among the team to watch out for at the forthcoming tournament in Cameroon. Apart from being the defending champion, Algeria has I higher chances of retaining the title they won two years ago due to their past and current form. 

During the qualifying series, they finished top of their group with 14 points without losing a single game. They would look to extend their form at the 2021 AFCON and possibly win the trophy. Riyad Mahrez who plies his trade with Manchester City would surely add his wealth of experience to their squad. 

2. Senegal 

The Lions of Teranga are number one in Africa according to FIFA rankings. They came close to winning the title in the last edition of the tournament after losing narrowly to Algeria. 

Edouard Mendy who is considered to be among the best goalkeeper in Europe would sure play a crucial role towards their title ambition. 

Sadio Mane who plies his trade with Liverpool is another player that would be instrumental to the Senegalese squad at 2021 AFCON.

3. Cameroon

The Indomitable Lions of Cameroon is another country that can be seen as a potential winner of the forthcoming AFCON tournament. Looking at their records during the qualifiers, one would predict that they would be out to make a statement when the tournament starts. 

Being the host country could also count to their advantage provided they put their acts together.
