Austine Eguavoen Reveals His Decision To Overlook Akinkunmi Amoo For AFCON 2021

There has been called for the interim manager of the Super Eagles, Augustine Eguavoen to include Hammarby IF winger, Akinkunmi Amoo in his final squad for the forthcoming 2021 African Cup Of Nations tournament in Cameroon.

Despite his omission in the 28 man squad that was released, there was another opportunity for Eguavoen to make an adjustment by including the dazzling winger after Al Shabab refused to release Odion Ighalo for the tournament.

However, speaking in a video interview that posted on the official Super Eagles media pages, Eguavoen said he had the intention to draft in Amoo but the problem he had with decision is that Amoo can not come in as a substitute for a striker.

“Akinkunmi Amoo is not a striker but can play off the striker. So I thought of replacing Ighalo with any of them but what CAF is saying is it’s only based on injury, health reasons that’s the only way you can replace players. So that’s what was holding us back”. Austine Eguavoen stated.
