8th Edition Of Obizi Unity Cup Begins

The Deputy Speaker of the Anambra State House of Assembly, Rt Hon Chukwuma Pius Okoye, formally inaugurated the Obizi Unity Cup 2023/2024 as a tribute to the late Chief Chukwudi Okafor (Amuluonyen-ego na Umuawulu)Held at St. Mark’s Anglican Church Umuawulu on Sunday, December 17, 2023, the opening ceremony featured a match where the U-13 team of Solar Spiders FC of Nibo faced off against Amawbia FA. Kenechukwu Nzekwe, sporting jersey number 10, initiated the scoring for Nibo, with Israel, donning jersey number 8, equalizing for Amawbia FA.

Chibuike Obasi secured the win for Amawbia FA to make it 2:1 in favor of Amawbia FA.During his address, Deputy Speaker Hon Chukwuma Okoye emphasized that the Obizi Unity Cup 2023 marks its 8th edition and declared these young players as the future of tomorrow. He pledged to sponsor the ten best players to Denmark, recognizing the significance of football in entertaining and financially empowering players and the community.Okoye underscored that the Obizi Unity Cup serves a dual purpose — not only nurturing talent for future opportunities but also steering youth away from criminal activities.

He asserted his commitment to curbing crime in his constituency, highlighting Obizi as one of the safest in the state.The MD/CEO of Awka Capital Territory Development Agency (ACTDA), Ossy Onuko, present at the opening ceremony, commended Deputy Speaker Hon Chukwuma Okoye for his continuous sponsorship of the Obizi Unity Cup, emphasizing the unifying role of sports in the Obizi constituency.Various dignitaries graced the occasion to support Deputy Speaker Hon Chukwuma Okoye, including MD/CEO B-Lord Group Mr. Williams Linus, Chief Halford Oseke, High Chief Edwin Nwoye (Don Poki), among others.Their presence affirmed the collaborative efforts to promote sports and unity within the Obizi constituency.
