Umea IK FF of Sweden have signed Super Falcons left back Glory Ogbonna from Edo Queens, an agreement that also extends to the 2022 season.

The 22-year-old will arrive in Umea immediately after the Super Falcons training camp in Austria ends on July 24.

Ogbonna joined Edo Queens last November and has also represented the U-20 national team at the World Cup 2016 and 2018.

“Playing abroad has always been my big goal and I am extremely happy and grateful for the contract with Umea IK FF,” Ogbonna told UIK website.

“I have talked alot with Rita Chikwelu and with some other national team players who played in Sweden. “Everyone says that Umea play a technical and fast football with good passing game and I like that.

“The goal is to play with UIK in the OBOS Damallsvenskan next year and I have a strong belief that we will succeed together,” Ogbonna to UIK website.

Ogbonna who has played about 20 matches for the A national team will be the fourth Nigerian to play for the Umea after Rita Chikwelu who spent six seasons there as well as Ebere Orji and Ogonna Chukwudi.

Ogbonna in an exclusively chat with FreekickNaija from Austria appreciated the role played by former Super Falcons player Perpetua Nwkocha for the deal to materialize.

“She (Nwkocha) is the source of this great achievement for me. She started from the onset, pushing everything to make sure the deal was successful today.

“She was everything about this deal. She didn’t relent and kept pushing till the end. Words can’t express my gratitude and appreciation towards her for making the deal a reality for me,” an estactic Ogbonna enthused.
