Why I Picked Maduka Okoye Over Adebayo Adeleye – Eguavoen

Super Eagles of Nigeria interim manager Austine Eguavoen has come out to explain his reasons for opting to stick with Maduka Okoye and the other two goalkeepers in the national team squad instead of calling up the in-form Hapoel Jerusalem goalkeeper, Adebayo Adeleye.

Speaking to Elegbete TV in a question and Answers series, Augustine Eguavoen made it clear that he can’t not bring in Adeleye for the crucial FIFA World Cup Qualifying playoff against the Black Stars of Ghana because he is new. According to him he does not have doubts on Adebayo Adeleye’s ability because he has worked with him some years ago at the U17 level. He stressed that there are a lot of other players on his agenda but every player would get his chance at the appropriate time.

Hear him “I have vast knowledge about players. Adebayo was in my U17 national team that I took to South Africa some years ago. I know him. But we are playing Ghana now, it is not a friendly game. You can’t just bring somebody new into the team right now.”
