Sports Commissioner Refutes Ekiti United Players, Supporters Club Claim Over Poor Welfare…. Insists: Nobody Harassed Me

Contrary to the publication circulating online that Ekiti United and it supporters club protested over their poor welfare yesterday was not the through picture of what transpired.

The online publication went ahead to state that some players and supporters club protested over the poor attitude of the commissioner, Hon Michael Awopetu and his team towards the welfare of the players.

The publication went further to state that since the beginning of the season two months ago, the ministry had only released ten thousand naira to each players.

Hon. Awopetu in his responses to the online publication stated that he was at the stadium yesterday morning because of the delayed salary payment.

“The salary have been paid. Nobody harrased me,” said Awopetu.

“They (players) only told me their grievances. These players have never been owed any salary. The issue we had was with the newly recruited players to add to the old ones who have all been added to the payroll.

“The newly recruited players traveled for league games for 8 days and they just returned to sign the necessary documents for their salaries to be paid which led to the delay.

Hon. Awopetu further stated that in the last three years, no player of the club is been owed salary up till date haven’t been ajugded as one of the best managed club in the NNL.

“The supporters club also gets allowances for their activities from the club every month but because of the delay they were angry,” Awopetu disclosed.
