Pelumi Abiara: 2021 Bet9ja Ekiti football league will retain the playoff, group stage, knockout format

The Chief Operating Officer of Bet9ja Ekiti football league, Pelumi Abiara says the 2021 football league season will retain the format adopted in 2019.

Abiara revealed to FreeKickNaija recently that the format adopted during the 2019 league season will remain.

The winning teams from the playoffs will join teams with direct slots to make it 20 teams in the group stages.

The 20 teams will be divided into 4 groups of five.

The first edition of the Bet9ja Ekiti football league was stage in 2019 but couldn’t hold in 2020 due to Corona Virus pandemic.

Soccer Academy of Igede defeated Moyero FC 4-3 on penalties to claim the inaugural Bet9ja Ekiti football league in 2019.

“The league is designed to engage youths in the building process for a sustainable football brand and culture in Ekiti,” Abiara said.

Sixty teams from across Ekiti took part in the playoffs of the first edition of the Bet9ja Ekiti Football League, BEFL in 2019.

“The 13 teams that qualified for an automatic slot in BEFL21 for not relegating in the 2019 edition have been contacted to confirm their participation for the new season,” Abiara told FreeKickNaija.

The Bet9ja Ekiti football league is largest gathering of local football clubs in southwest Nigeria.

The league season will kick-off in May.
