NNL: Ekiti United Players Lament Poor Welfare, Trek to Training Ground

By Gbenga Adeleye

All is not well in the camp of Ekiti United FC, FreekickNaija can report authouritatively.

After Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Go Round FC of Omoku, players were compelled to take motorcycles back to to their camp due to the inability of those saddled with the runnings of the club to settle the financial involvement of the bus they hired from the Ministry of Education.

It will be recalled that few weeks ago the team bus was involved in a road crash along Ikere-Ado road on their way back from training and since then the team is yet to get a replacement as at the time of reporting.

Players of Ekiti United were spotted on the street of Ado-Ekiti trekking down to training since the turn of the week and it has not gone down well with some of the players who wouldn’t want their names in print.

“It a pathetic situation here. We trek to training and no one is telling us anything,” a player told FreekickNaija.

“No proper welfare package for us (Players). We are suffering, using our own personal money to transport to the training ground.

“As I speak with you, we don’t have money to take motorcycle to training, for few days we have being trekking. Our match bonuses are not been paid.

“We are suffering. What will it take them (management) to prove a new bus for us, we are dying in silent and no one seems to be telling us anything about improving our welfare,” said the player.

Effort to reach management staff of Ekiti United to hear their own side proved abbortive as at the time of publication.
